Finding shed antlers in your hunting area in February and March, can tell you a great deal about the number and quality of bucks you are likely to see during next hunting season. Look for them in brushy ravines, where deer are feeding, around water, and where they cross fences or other obstacles.
Training
Winter is a great time to get ready for future hiking trips. Walk every day or use a treadmill, stair stepper or stairs. As your trip gets closer, add a loaded pack to your routine to help add more strength to your legs, and so your back and shoulder muscles get adjusted to the load.
Exercising Outdoors
Researchers have discovered that people who exercise outdoors are healthier and happier than those who do the equivalent exercise indoors. Those of us who love the outdoors don’t need research to tell us that.

After all the deer seasons are over, get out and start scouting for next year. Main deer trails stand out like road maps in the winter woods and secondary trails are also very visible, as are rubs and leftover scrapes from this season. You can identify cover types, travel corridors, terrain, water sources and feeding patterns.
